An American citizen has been arrested in occupied Palestine on suspicion of maintaining contact with Iranian intelligence operatives and carrying out surveillance-related missions.
The arrest was made on June 9 following a joint investigation by the Israeli spy agency Shin Bet and the regime's police into the suspect's alleged contact with Iranian intelligence operatives.
The man, an American citizen in his 20s, was detained on suspicion of engaging in activities deemed "harmful to Israel's security."
According to the regime's authorities, the suspect allegedly had been in contact with individuals identified as Iranian intelligence handlers in recent months.
Israeli authorities alleged that the suspect carried out assignments that included photographing and documenting sensitive sites across occupied Palestine in exchange for payment.
They also alleged that he maintained ongoing contact with his Iranian handlers while carrying out multiple assignments over an extended period.
A prosecutor's statement has been filed ahead of an expected indictment in the coming days.
Additional reporting has indicated similar investigations involving alleged recruitment efforts linked to Iranian intelligence.
In one case reported by Israeli media, a suspect from Tel Aviv in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of maintaining contact with Iranian handlers and carrying out security-related tasks.
According to the report, "he communicated with Iranian intelligence officials and performed missions on their behalf."
In a separate case reported in May 2026, Israeli prosecutors announced plans to indict three soldiers and a settler on suspicion of long-term contact with Iran-linked operatives.
They were accused of photographing military and public infrastructure, including train stations, shopping centers, and security camera locations.
Israeli authorities said the suspects had been in contact with Iranian intelligence handlers before beginning their military service and continued communicating with them afterwards.
Meanwhile, Iranian intelligence and law enforcement agencies have detained several individuals for spying since early 2026, particularly during the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.
