Hezbollah: Lebanon-Israel talks undermine sovereignty, amount to surrender to enemy demands

Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement has strongly condemned direct negotiations between Lebanese officials and Israel, saying the government is yielding to US pressure and compromising the country's sovereignty.

In a statement released on Sunday, Hezbollah said recent rounds of talks involving a Lebanese delegation in Washington were designed solely to secure acceptance of US demands.

“It has become clear and certain that the rounds of direct negotiations to which the Lebanese authority delegation was driven to Washington, only to nod and stamp the dictates written by the US administration, confiscate Lebanon's sovereignty and shift its political position to the side of those reconciling with the Israeli occupation and its illegitimate entity,” it said.

The group went on to say that it saw no prospect of positive outcomes from "reconciliation negotiations," adding that the talks are based on a "wrong and suspicious" premise and aimed at securing Lebanon's submission to the enemy’s demands.

Hezbollah further reiterated its rejection of any direct negotiations with Israel, describing the talks and their outcomes as harmful to Lebanon's interests.

It also said the negotiations obstruct efforts to confront Israel and undermine the sacrifices made by the Lebanese people and the resistance movement, arguing that Lebanese authorities should instead use Lebanon's sources of leverage to secure a complete and unconditional Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

The group also noted that the Lebanese government is acting on instructions from Washington, saying continued participation in the negotiations amounted to implementing directives issued by the US administration.

Hezbollah also said the government's approach violated Lebanon's constitutional and legal framework and served the objectives of the US and Israel, which it said threatened Lebanon's stability, independence and sovereignty.

The statement comes as the Israeli regime has intensified its attacks on various areas in southern Lebanon despite a ceasefire that recently took effect with Hezbollah.

Hezbollah continues to confront the Israeli occupation and respond to its ongoing aggression against Lebanon and its people.
