Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has praised Qatar for its role in facilitating diplomatic efforts that led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States, describing the development as an opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation and stability.
During a telephone conversation with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Thursday, Pezeshkian thanked Doha for its efforts to reduce tensions and help create the conditions necessary for reaching the agreement.
According to a statement released by the Iranian presidency, Pezeshkian said the MoU could open the way for greater cooperation among regional countries, stronger unity among Islamic nations, and lasting peace and stability.
He stressed that closer cooperation and mutual support among Muslim countries are essential for addressing regional challenges and promoting long-term security and development.
Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran's commitment to strengthening political, economic, and cultural ties with neighboring and Islamic countries and expressed hope that the new atmosphere created by the MoU would deepen relations between Iran, Qatar, and other regional states.
For his part, Sheikh Tamim described relations between Tehran and Doha as strategic and rooted in shared interests and common destiny.
Welcoming the MoU, he emphasized the importance of diplomacy and dialogue in reducing tensions and enhancing regional stability, adding that the current circumstances offer an opportunity to expand cooperation between the two countries.
The Qatari emir said Doha has consistently worked to strengthen relations with Iran and support efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region. He also expressed hope that all parties would remain committed to their obligations under the agreement.
Sheikh Tamim further reaffirmed Qatar's support for initiatives that promote regional stability and help secure a lasting agreement serving the interests of all parties involved.
The MoU, which lays the groundwork for 60 days of negotiations toward a final agreement, includes a US commitment to work with regional partners on a $300 billion reconstruction and economic development plan for Iran.
According to the text, the United States also undertakes to terminate all illegal sanctions against Iran and release frozen Iranian assets.
Under the agreement, all military aggressions by the US and Israel, including those in Lebanon, have ended.
