Iran has strongly condemned the “illegal and criminal” aerial assaults by the terrorist American regime, saying they violate international law and the fragile ceasefire that ended the US-Israeli against the Islamic Republic.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Thursday after the United States, for the second consecutive day, targeted Iran, triggering the country to launch retaliatory strikes on US military bases in the region and shut the Strait of Hormuz to all vessels.
“The illegal and criminal attacks by the United States in recent hours not only constitute a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and the fundamental principles of international law regarding respect for states’ national sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also render the April 8 ceasefire practically meaningless,” it said.
The ministry also emphasized that the responsibility for dangerous consequences resulting from the recent conflagration lies with the ruling US administration.
It further said that the terrorist US army’s use of the territory and facilities of some regional countries to attack Iran has placed those states on the side of the aggressors.
Meanwhile, the ministry reminded all countries in the region of their legal and moral commitment to prevent the US from using their soil and resources to commit the crime of aggression against Iran.
Iran is determined to “neutralize the origin and source” of attacks against the country while exercising its inherent right to self-defense against the military aggression by the US and its accomplices, it added.
Additionally, the Iranian Foreign Ministry highlighted the shared responsibility of all UN member states to unequivocally oppose the flagrant violation of the fundamental principles and purposes of the UN Charter by the United States and the Zionist regime.
“Undoubtedly, silence and inaction in the face of the lawlessness and bullying by the US and the Zionist regime will drive the world further towards chaos and insecurity,” it said, reminding the UN Security Council and the UN chief of their responsibility towards international peace and security.
It also warned, “Issuing general and vague statements, in a situation where there is no doubt about the aggressive nature of the actions of the US and the Zionist regime, is not considered a responsible action and will only encourage the aggressor parties to continue breaking the law and further violate the fundamental principles and rules of the UN Charter and international law.”
The unjustified US-Israeli aggression on Iran began on February 28. In response, the Iranian Armed Forces targeted sensitive and strategic American and Israeli targets throughout the region and restricted transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's brave resistance led the war to spiral out of the aggressors’ control, causing regional destabilization, rising oil prices, and a global economic shock.
On April 8, forty days into the war, an Islamabad-brokered ceasefire went into effect. However, the first round of Tehran-Washington negotiations failed to reach an agreement, with the latter imposing an inhumane “naval blockade” of Iran.
Since then, both Israel and the US have violated the truce, sparking Iran’s retaliatory attacks and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
