Iran's powerful retaliatory operations bewilder US president, says senior legislator

US President Donald Trump

Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran’s Parliament says the powerful retaliatory missile and drone operations carried out by Iranian Armed Forces in the course of the US-Israeli wars of aggression against the Islamic Republic have bewildered US President Donald Trump.

Ebrahim Azizi stated on Thursday that the shameful withdrawal of American forces from the Persian Gulf region, multiple targeting and destruction of their bases, and the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which was open to shipping before the latest US-Israeli onslaught against Iran, have all inflicted a major and stunning defeat on Washington.

"The crushing blows and strong retaliation of the Armed Forces and the great nation of Iran have confused and bewildered the US president," the senior Iranian legislator pointed out.

He stated that Trump is displaying frantic gestures that are completely contradictory to the principles of negotiations, emphasizing they are due to the utter despair and notable lack of planning among US statesmen.

Azizi went on to note that the enemy has failed to achieve any of its objectives declared during the 12-day June 2025 and the latest 40-day wars of aggression against Iran, stressing this is chiefly because of the resistance and steadfastness of the Iranian nation.

He added that the enemy has reached an impasse concerning its policies and has been forced to change its approach.

"Nonetheless, it is still trying to compensate for its losses through wild gestures and abrupt decisions."

Azizi stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is now standing in a much higher military, political, and economic position than before, and has been able to properly utilize its strategic capabilities.

"The Iranian nation and Armed Forces have disrupted the enemy's calculations, thanks to their decisive responses. This has caused confusion and knee-jerk reactions from the US side," the senior Iranian lawmaker said.

He added, "The current situation shows the enemy's total failure, and the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its path strongly, relying on its domestic power and national cohesion."

Azizi’s remarks came after US President Donald Trump ordered a fresh round of aggression against Iran last night in a clear breach of a ceasefire that took effect on April 8. He later told Fox News that American forces had launched 49 Tomahawk missiles in the latest attacks.

In response, Iranian armed forces launched dozens of missiles and drones against US bases in Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait.
