Iran’s Amirkabir University of Technology

Twelve faculty members from Iran’s Amirkabir University of Technology have been recognized among the world’s top one percent of highly cited researchers, according to the latest report released by the Islamic World Science Citation and Monitoring Institute (ISC).

The list, compiled based on data from the internationally recognized Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database, highlights researchers whose scientific work has achieved exceptional global impact through high citation rates.

The inclusion of 12 Amirkabir University scholars in the ranking reflects the university’s growing international academic standing and the global influence of its research output across multiple scientific fields.

The faculty members named in the list are Mohammad Rabiei, Fereydoun Moghaddas-Nejad, Gevork B. Gharehpetian, Heydar Ali Talebi, Mostafa Abbaszadeh, Seyed Hossein Hassanian, Seyed Mojtaba Agha-Mirsalim, Mehdi Dehghan, Mohammadreza Eslami, Sajjad Jafari, Zahra Shariati-Nia, and Mehrdad Abedi.

The announcement comes amid broader signs of Iran’s advancing scientific performance on the global stage despite financial and infrastructural constraints.

According to newly released ISC data, Iran currently ranks first among the world’s 20 leading scientific producers in publication efficiency, producing more internationally indexed scientific papers per research dollar than any other major scientific nation

ISC President Mohammad Mehdi Alavian-Mehr said the findings demonstrate the strength of Iran’s scientific community and its ability to convert limited research resources into measurable academic achievements and international visibility.

Iran has also improved its position in the global ranking of highly cited scientific papers, rising from eighth place in 2023 to sixth place in 2025 among the world’s top scientific producers.

The latest figures show that 15.9 percent of Iran’s scientific publications in 2025 were ranked among the world’s top 10 percent most-cited papers, compared to 14.1 percent in 2023.

“Among the world’s top 20 scientific producers, Iran is the only country that has improved by two positions in this indicator during the period under review,” Alavian-Mehr stated.

The new rankings highlight the resilience and expanding international impact of Iranian science, as the country continues to strengthen its research presence in highly competitive global academic indicators despite ongoing economic challenges.
