Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has discussed the latest developments surrounding the ongoing indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States in a meeting with visiting Pakistani interior minister Mohsin Naqvi.

During the meeting held in Tehran on Wednesday, Pezeshkian also appreciated Pakistan’s mediation efforts during the ongoing confrontation with the US and the role the country has played in supporting stability, security, and cooperation between Muslim countries in the region.

He also called for an expansion of bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan.

Naqvi’s visit to Tehran is his second in just a week, as Islamabad has intensified efforts to work out a deal that could allow a permanent end to the 39-day US-Israeli aggression against Iran, which was halted as part of a Pakistani-mediated ceasefire on April 8.

During the Wednesday meeting with the Iranian president, Naqvi conveyed the messages and viewpoints of Pakistani government officials regarding the ongoing developments in the region, which highlighted the importance of continuing the path of dialogue and agreement, according to a readout of the meeting provided by the Iranian Presidency.

The meeting comes amid media reports suggesting there has been a flurry of diplomatic activity in recent days with the aim of narrowing the gaps between Iran and the US for reaching a deal.

Reports have indicated that Naqvi has carried messages from the US government in his two recent trips to Tehran.

Iran has indicated it is ready for a deal if the US provides guarantees about a permanent end to the aggression and lifts all sanctions and blockades on Iran.

In return, Iran could ease the restrictions on the flow of energy in the Persian Gulf, which have been in place since the early days of the aggression.
