An Iranian deputy foreign minister says Tehran is keen to promote cooperation with Asian–African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) on combating unilateral coercive measures and supporting multilateralism.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi made the remarks in a meeting with AALCO Secretary General Kamalinne Pinitpuvadol at the organization’s Secretariat based in New Delhi, India, on Friday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for more active cooperation with AALCO on issues such as the development and codification of international law, combating unilateral coercive measures, supporting multilateralism, and strengthening the legal capacity of the member states,” he said.

Pointing to the significant position of the AALCO for Iran, he added that the organization plays a key role in strengthening the legal voice of the Asian and African countries in international developments.

The Iranian diplomat emphasized that international law currently faces challenges such as the use of force, unilateral coercive measures, double standards, the weakening of multilateralism, and attempts to impose unilateral narratives.

Under such circumstances, Gharibabadi noted, international bodies such as AALCO play an important role in defending the sovereign equality of states, the right to development, the peaceful settlement of disputes and the equitable participation of all countries.

He said AALCO has the capacity to be one of the important platforms for shaping an independent, balanced, and just approach in international law.

Pinitpuvadol, for his part, hailed Iran’s support for the AALCO's programs and activities and outlined the body’s various programs in 2026, marking the 70th anniversary of its establishment.

He expressed AALCO’s readiness to hold joint legal initiatives and events with Iran.
