Bahraini protesters slam Al Khalifah regime's crackdown on Iran sympathizers

Bahraini protesters slam the Manama regime's crackdown campaign against Iran sympathizers during a demonstration in the village of Diraz, Bahrain, late on May 12, 2026.

Dozens of protesters have staged a demonstration in Bahrain to condemn the Al Khalifah regime's repressive measures against those sympathizing with Iran and displaying expressions of support for Iranian retaliatory operations amid the US-Israeli war of aggression.

The demonstrators poured onto the streets in Diraz village on the northernmost coast of the Persian Gulf kingdom late on Tuesday, chanting slogans in denunciation of the Manama regime's crackdown against Shia Muslims and anyone glorifying the Iranian strikes.

They censured the heavy-handed measures by regime forces, including arbitrary detentions and revocations of the citizenship of dozens of people, against Iran sympathizers.

This comes as masked regime forces have abducted dozens of Shia Muslim scholars, including Jamil al-A'ali, Mahmoud al-A'ali, Radhi al-Qaffas, and Jassim al-Mu'min, over the past few days on trumped-up charges.

They were transported to an unknown location, and their fate remains unclear.

Bahrain's Interior Ministry said in a statement on May 9 that authorities had detained 41 individuals on charges of affiliation with Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), without providing details on the alleged activities of those kidnapped.

Back on April 27, the Manama regime revoked the citizenship of 69 individuals and their families for "expressing support for Iran (retaliatory) attacks" against US and Israeli military assets across West Asia amid the bloody and unprovoked onslaught against the country.

The interior ministry said in a statement at the time that the individuals also published posts on social media platforms "glorifying and sympathizing with" regional resistance movements.

The Al Khalifah regime, which has long been persecuting Shia Muslims and pro-democracy activists in Bahrain, has stepped up its repressive measures since the start of the US-Israeli offensive against Iran on February 28.

Bahraini authorities have described Iranian missile and drone operations against US interests in the country as an attack on their sovereignty, and have adopted the toughest position among members of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) against Tehran.
