IRGC Quds Force chief: Israel’s kidnapping of Gaza flotilla activists ‘international terrorism’

The commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Esmail Qa’ani

The commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has condemned the violent interception of the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla vessels and detention of pro-Palestinian activists by Israeli forces as a prime example of international terrorism.

Brigadier General Esmail Qa’ani made the remarks in a statement on Saturday, after Israeli forces attacked the aid convoy in international waters off the coast of Greece.

Qa’ani went on to say that the activists’ endeavors to lift the siege imposed on the oppressed people of Gaza and to rescue Palestinian children and women from the grasp of the Zionists represent the pinnacle of the global struggle against those who perpetrate violence against innocent lives.

He further stressed that the “despicable actions carried out by the Zionists will only serve to strengthen the resolve of freedom-seekers around the world to break the siege on the oppressed inhabitants of Gaza.”

Late on Wednesday, Israeli forces intercepted 22 out of the 58 aid boats travelling through international waters and bound for the besieged Gaza Strip.

At least 211 activists, including a Paris city councilor, were reported to have been taken to Israel. Israeli officials put the number of detainees at 175.

The vessels make up part of a second Global Sumud Flotilla attempting in recent months to break the Israeli blockade by carrying humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. They sailed from the Spanish port of Barcelona on April 12.

The boats were seized off Greece’s Peloponnese Peninsula, hundreds of miles from Gaza.

The Sumud Flotilla stated in a statement that 31 activists were wounded in the Israeli assault.
