Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira has expressed strong condemnation of the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran, while offering condolences for the martyrdom of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, officials and citizens.

Vieira discussed the ongoing developments in the West Asia region with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Aragchi on Thursday, focusing on the consequences of the US and Israeli terrorism against Iran.

Vieira expressed solidarity with the Iranian government and people. Araghchi elaborated on the scope of the aggressive actions by the US and Israel, stressing that the military onslaught was imposed on Iran amidst ongoing diplomatic efforts.

He reaffirmed Iran’s steadfast commitment to defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity until the complete achievement of its objectives and the regret of the aggressors.

Araghchi underscored that the US and Israel are the instigators of this imposed war, adding that Iran’s defensive operations against the bases and facilities of the aggressors in the region are part of its inherent right to self-defense.

He emphasized that these actions should not be seen as violations of the sovereignty of host countries.

Furthermore, Araghchi stated that regional countries, in accordance with international law and principles of good-neighborliness, are obligated to prevent the US and Israel from using their territory and resources to carry out aggressive actions against Iran.

He warned that any negligence on this matter would result in international responsibility and could have serious repercussions for regional peace and stability.

The Brazilian foreign minister, deeply concerned about the legal violations and breaches of international norms, reiterated the need to respect national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the fundamental principles of international law.

Separately, Foreign Minister Araghchi slammed the selective use of international law, stating that Israel’s actions are overlooked while Iran’s defensive measures are condemned.

In a post on his X account on Thursday, Araghchi reacted to the double standards in the international system.

“The US backed Israel’s Gaza blockade, cutting aid under ‘security’ claims, yet condemns Iran for defending itself in the Strait of Hormuz,” he wrote.

This represents a clear “double standard: Israel’s crimes are OK while Iran’s defense against aggressors is condemned,” he added.

He reiterated that international law “is not a tool of convenience.”

In a separate telephone conversation, Araghchi spoke with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan about regional developments and the consequences of the ongoing military aggression by the US and Israel against Iran.

Araghchi expressed appreciation for Turkey and some regional countries’ efforts to stop the US and Israeli aggression against Iran, and updated Fidan on the latest developments in the region.

Araghchi emphasized that the US demand for talks while continuing its military actions and deploying forces and equipment to commit further crimes against the Iranian people is a clear contradiction.

He pointed out that Iran is not the initiator of this imposed war but is defending its sovereignty, national security, and territorial integrity against aggressors.

"We expect all regional countries and the international community to responsibly condemn the aggression and crimes committed by the US and Israel, and hold the aggressors accountable for their blatant violations of international law and attacks on Iran," Araghchi said.

Fidan, while noting his continued consultations with various regional countries, reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to efforts aimed at helping to end the war.
