Turkish officials believe Israel fabricated ‘Iranian plot’ to kill Trump: Report
A new report shows that the suspected Iranian plot to assassinate US President Donald Trump during a recent NATO summit in Turkey was a fabrication by the Israeli intelligence agency to derail Iran-US talks aimed at permanently ending the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.
The Wednesday report by the Middle East Eye (MEE) quoted Turkish officials and sources as saying that the Israeli intelligence report had sought to persuade the US Secret Service that Iran was planning to kill Trump during the NATO summit in Ankara in July.
“Of course, we took the report very seriously and tried to assist our American counterparts as much as possible… Yet it was very clear to us that there was no way this report was true,” one source told the MEE about the Israeli intelligence report delivered to US officials in Turkey on July 8.
The report said Benjamin Netanyahu and his team were just trying to portray themselves as protecting Trump and undermine efforts by him to reach a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway in the Persian Gulf that has come under strict Iranian control since the early days of the US-Israeli aggression on the country in early March.
Turkish officials told the MEE that a plot by Iran to kill Trump in Ankara could seriously undermine the relations between Iran and Turkey that have been kept in a “relatively stable” situation since the start of the US-Israeli aggression on Iran.
Iran has publicly thanked Turkey on several occasions for preventing a suspected US-Israeli plot to trigger riots in Kurdish-dominated regions of Iran that border Turkey during the war of aggression.
Another Turkish source told the MEE that the timing of the publication of the Washington Post report, which came earlier this month and exposed the US Secret Service operation to use a catering container to protect Trump from the assassination attempt, was also odd and ironic.
The insider said the Israelis probably “need heroes for an attack that never happened and, most likely, was never planned.”
