Gaza Civil Defense collapses as Israeli fuel blockade halts all emergency operations

Gaza’s Civil Defense said its entire fleet of emergency vehicles has been forced to shut down due to a severe fuel shortage, paralyzing life-saving operations and prompting urgent calls for international intervention.

In a statement on Tuesday, the agency said the lack of fuel has forced it to suspend body recovery operations, leaving victims trapped under rubble. Heavy machinery used to clear debris and remove hazards has also been idled, further delaying rescue operations.

The agency warned that the fuel crisis has drastically reduced its ability to respond to distress calls, particularly amid harsh weather conditions that require constant readiness in the field.

It urged international organizations and humanitarian institutions to act immediately, stressing that essential life-saving services cannot continue without an urgent fuel supply.

The crisis comes as Israel maintains tight restrictions on fuel entering Gaza, aggravating an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis.

The blockade has contributed to the collapse of vital services across the beseiged strip, which has suffered immense devastation following Israel’s genocidal assault.

The fuel shortage persists despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, first enacted on October 11, 2025, and extended into a second phase in January.

Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire, ignoring its humanitarian obligations, including allowing fuel, aid, and rubble-clearing equipment to enter Gaza.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued deadly attacks across Gaza on Monday and Tuesday. In central Gaza, drones struck a house in the Al-Nuseirat refugee camp, killing two civilians and wounding several others in a densely populated area.

In northern Gaza, Israeli forces killed a Palestinian in Halawa Camp, Jabaliya, while residents in nearby neighborhoods faced ongoing drone strikes, gunfire, and military incursions.

In southern Gaza, medical sources at Nasser Medical Complex confirmed that Israeli forces killed a Palestinian in Khan Younis.

Palestinian health authorities report that since October 11, 2025, Israel has killed at least 527 Palestinians and injured 1,447 others.

Since the genocidal assault began on October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have killed over 71,800 Palestinians and wounded more than 171,000, the majority of them women and children.
