Nearly 25,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced from the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarem alone over the past year, amid increasing Israeli army’s attacks and settler violence.

Tulkarem Deputy Governor Faisal Salameh confirmed that the ongoing aggression for over a year has forced about 25,000 Palestinians to leave their homes in Tulkarem’s refugee camps of Tulkarem and Nour Shams.

That came amid Israel’s raids, destruction of infrastructure, and the near-total closure of both camps.

Salameh noted that the first wave of displacement forced thousands of families to seek shelter in schools, mosques, hospitals, and charity offices, before stretching into a prolonged crisis.

The Israeli attacks have not spared the shelters, with reports saying Israeli forces on Thursday stormed a shelter for displaced people south of Jenin, after invading two towns north of Tulkarem earlier in the day and vandalizing property in civilian homes.

Since January 2025, Israel has intensified its attacks on various parts of the occupied West Bank as part of its attempts to Judaize and impose its control over the territory.

In total, about 40,000 Palestinians have been uprooted from their homes in the occupied West Bank since the beginning of 2025, particularly in Jenin and Tulkarem.

Satellite imagery from last month indicated that approximately half of all buildings in Nour Shams Camp have been damaged or destroyed by Israel since the start of the aggression last year.

The escalated aggression against the occupied West Bank comes against the backdrop of Israel’s genocidal war in the Gaza Strip.

Israel launched the war on Gaza in October 2023, killing nearly 71,000 Palestinians before the war came to an end last October with a fragile ceasefire agreement.

Since October 7, 2023, over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by settlers and soldiers in the occupied West Bank.
