Iran warning
Iran’s permanent ambassador to the United Nations warns of severe consequences of the United States’ illegal measures against Iran. Amir Saeid Iravani was speaking at a meeting of the Security Council on Monday. The ambassador said the US has repeatedly threatened Iran with military force, openly instigated violence in the country and supported terrorist operations there. He underlined that the US bears full responsibility for its actions and threats, which he said bring serious repercussions. Iravani said the US has engaged in a pattern of illegal actions to undermine the authority of the United Nations and replace it with its own unilateral decisions. He added that those unlawful unilateral measures have eroded the rule of law at the International level and have endangered global peace and security. The Iranian UN envoy said Washington considers itself above the law and seeks peace through force.
Gaza rising causalities
More bodies are being taken to the barley-functioning hospitals in Gaza as Israeli attacks continue despite the handing over of the last Israeli captive’s body. In the Altuffah Neighborhood, Israeli artillery shelling killed three Palestinians, while a quadcopter strike killed another. Israeli forces are also continuing the demolition of Palestinian buildings behind the yellow line. Meanwhile, the body of the last Israeli captive, previously cited as a reason to delay phase two of the ceasefire has been handed over. Palestinians are now urging ceasefire guarantors to pressure Israel to comply with both the first and second phases of the agreement. Since the ceasefire began, Israel has carried out near-daily violations, killing almost 490 Palestinians and injuring over 1,340 others.
ICE chief summoned to court
A chief federal judge in the US State of Minnesota has summoned the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to appear in his courtroom, threatening to hold the agency's leader in contempt of court. Judge Patrick Schiltz says the administration has repeatedly violated or slow-walked court orders related to its immigration crackdown in the state. In his order, the judge wrote that the agency's failures have caused significant hardship for detainees, many of whom are unlawfully held or flown to Texas. He demanded that Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons appear personally to explain the defiance. Other judges in the district have issued similar warnings, accusing the administration of stretching the legal process to deny non-citizens their due process rights. The standoff comes as broader lawsuits seek to end the ICE operation in Minnesota following the fatal shooting of two American citizens.
