Slamming the EU's anti-Iran resolution

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned a European Parliament resolution, saying it is based on unfounded and incorrect claims about recent terrorist attacks in the country. In a statement, the ministry called the resolution interventionist and irresponsible. It said the European Parliament lacks moral standing on human rights due to its members’ support for unjust anti-Iran sanctions and complicity with the Zionist regime’s aggression against Iran in June, which was a flagrant violation of the human rights of the Iranian people. The ministry added that the drafters of the resolution based their work on US-Israeli lies, ignoring solid evidence that Zionist-linked terrorists drove peaceful gatherings to violence. It also warned that any illegal decision or interventionist stance regarding Iran’s armed forces and security personnel will be met with reciprocal action by Tehran, and the responsibility for its consequences will lie with the drafters.

US immigration crackdown

The United Nations human rights chief has strongly criticized US anti-immigration policies, warning that current practices by the authorities are violating human dignity and due process rights. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk noted that law enforcement actions have taken place in sensitive locations, including hospitals, schools, and even private homes. Turk warned that many detainees are denied timely access to legal counsel and effective ways to challenge their detention. The UN rights chief further called for an independent and transparent investigation into the rising number of deaths in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, citing at least 30 deaths last year and six more reported so far this year.

Gaza humanitarian crisis

As the humanitarian situation in the besieged Gaza Strip keeps worsening, more tragic events unfold. Another Palestinian infant has died from extreme cold in a displacement camp in Khan Yunis. The 6-month-old baby passed away in the Al-Mawasi area, where families are sheltering in flimsy tents, ill-equipped to protect them from the brutal winter cold. This tragedy highlights the dire conditions for displaced families in Gaza. Since the start of winter, at least 11 children have died due to the freezing conditions. The ongoing blockade has left many without fuel and power, intensifying the suffering. Meanwhile, Israel’s refusal to allow aid into Gaza is drawing sharp criticism, with many viewing it as a violation of the ceasefire and an aggravation of the already dire humanitarian crisis. According to Gaza’s health ministry, the death toll has surpassed 71,000 since the beginning of the genocidal war in October 2023.
