An Iranian military commander has warned that any attack on the country’s soil will be met with a swift, precise, and devastating response following recent threats by US President Donald Trump to strike the country.
"Any type of attack on the territory, security, and interests of the Iranian nation will immediately and as a first step, turn all US interests, bases, and centers of influence into legitimate, definitive, and accessible targets for the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran," Major General Ali Abdollahi, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said on Thursday.
In late December, Iran saw sporadic economic protests that were quickly hijacked by rioters incited by US and Israeli leaders and aided by their spy operatives on the ground.
Trump openly and publicly encouraged violence by calling on armed rioters to take over state institutions and threatening military action against Iran if they were confronted.
General Abdollahi noted that "Today, the US President's baseless threats and statements have not only faced widespread condemnation in the Islamic world, but have also faced serious protest and criticism within the United States and even in its Congress; a reality that clearly indicates the increasing isolation and decline of America's hostile, adventurous, and failed policies."
He added that the United States and Israel showed “strategic stupidity” by openly supporting recent seditions, riots, and terrorist acts against Iran, adding that these actions exposed the failure of hostile plans.
The Iranian people’s “decisive, intelligent, and enemy-breaking response” during the January 12 rallies demonstrated national unity and vigilance, and served as “clear evidence of the complete failure of hostile projects”, he said.
On January 12 rallies began across the country, with Fars News Agency reporting around three million participants in Tehran alone. The demonstrations came in response to days of foreign-backed riots, during which dozens of security personnel were killed in terrorist attacks.
Abdollahi emphasized that the public reaction sent “a serious and lasting warning” to the planners and supporters of the conspiracies, stressing that external pressure and interference would not succeed against the Iranian nation.
He said the strength of Iran’s armed forces, backed by the “decisive support of the people,” has not only disrupted the enemy’s strategic calculations but has also been “objectively and undeniably proven” on numerous occasions in the field.
He added that the adversaries of the Iranian nation, “especially the United States,” are fully aware of the consequences of this power.
General Abdollahi said Iran has “repeatedly and clearly” demonstrated that it has never initiated war and has no intention of doing so. However, Iran would deliver a “swift, decisive, harsh, and regret-inducing response” to any act of aggression, threat, or attack, he said.
The commander stated that the era of "hit and run" has ended forever, noting that Iran’s response “will be much faster, more precise, and more devastating than the US and the Zionist regime could even imagine."
Meanwhile, Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Ahmad Vahidi responded to the “nonsense” of Trump, saying the US president has “apparently grown accustomed to such baseless statements.”
Speaking on Thursday on the sidelines of a ceremony commemorating IRGC Day and honoring the late Major General Hossein Salami, Vahidi added that the brave and vigilant Iranian people’s actions on January 12 were “a firm and practical response to those same empty claims and attempts to belittle the defenders of this nation’s security.”
Vahidi emphasized that Iran “will never yield or submit to such nonsense, and will continue its path of progress and advancement with dignity and strength.”
