Syria ceasefire collapse

Renewed clashes erupt in northeast Syria as a fragile ceasefire collapses. This after negotiations between Kurdish-led forces and the HTS-led regime completely broke down. Intense clashes continue between the Syrian Democratic Forces and al-Joulani’s militants in key towns. Daesh fighters have broken out of several prisons. Damascus claims the SDF released the prisoners before withdrawing without any coordination. Meanwhile, al-Joulani’s militants have entered the al-Hol camp for displaced families of Daesh militants. The SDF blames the international community for inaction which has forced their withdrawal from the camp and redeployment in northern Syria. The collapsed truce and the security breakdown are forcing thousands of families to flee, raising fears of a major displacement crisis and creating dangerous uncertainty after the Daesh militants' prison breakout.

Iran warns US

The spokesman of Iranian Armed Forces has warned the United States that any threat directed at the Leader of the Islamic Revolution would meet an overwhelming response. In reaction to the recent US rhetoric, Brigadier General Abu Fazl Shekarchi said Washington tries to create fear among Iranian people through a media war. He warned if one single part of Iran is attacked, the country will take action to severely punish the aggressor as it was proved during the June war. Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament's National Security Commission has warned that any attack on the Leader of the Islamic Revolution would amount to a declaration of war against the entire Muslim world. The commission says that such a move would trigger a call for jihad or uprising by Muslim scholars across the globe.

Europe-US Greenland controversy

The French President has called Washington's new tariffs against European countries unacceptable as rifts grow between Washington and the EU over Greenland. Emmanuel Macron says Europe must firmly reject the law of the strongest being used by the US in global economic relations. He threatened the EU must not hesitate to deploy its anti-coercion trade mechanism for the very first time if the threat persists. Macron was speaking at the forum of world leaders in Davos days after Donald Trump announced new tariffs for countries that oppose US plan to own Greenland. The officials of the EU, NATO, Denmark and Greenland have all strongly rejected US’s claim over Greenland citing national security.
