Complicity in US aggression
Iran has urged its neighbors to measure their policies against the principles of Islam, warning that supporting aggression against a fellow Muslim nation contradicts both the Qur'an and the teachings of Prophet Mohammad. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said no government can claim to represent the Prophet's message while aligning itself with forces that wage military aggression against a Muslim country. He stressed that Iran has consistently upheld good neighborly relations with Islamic nations despite political differences, but warned against siding with oppressors. Baghaei also questioned whether hosting the enemies of Muslims and supporting military attacks on a neighboring Muslim state could be reconciled with Islamic brotherhood and the rights of good neighborliness. He said the answers are clearly set out in the Qur'an and affirmed by the Prophet's tradition.
US general warns Pentagon
A senior US military commander has warned the Pentagon that the navy no longer has enough destroyers to keep protecting Israel from Iranian ballistic missile strikes. According to a new report by Washington Post, Head of the US military’s European Command, Alexus Grynkewich said unless another Aegis-equipped destroyer is assigned to his command, he would have to prioritize the defense of the US mainland over that of Israel. The European Command coordinates operations in the Mediterranean Sea, where US naval destroyers intercept missiles launched at Israel as part of Iran and Yemen’s retaliatory attacks. This is while, Pentagon’s assessments earlier showed that US forces bore the brunt of protecting Israel from Iran’s retaliatory strikes, with American THAAD systems and navy interceptors being used far more frequently than Israel’s own air defense systems.
Wildfires in Europe
Wildfires have reignited in southern France, as strong winds and scorching temperatures fuel blazes across multiple European countries. French authorities remain on high alert as strong winds strengthen, with an additional 1,500 hectares burned in the mountainous Gros Bessillon region. Six planes, five helicopters, and 1,500 firefighters have been deployed, and over 2,500 residents have been evacuated. No casualties have been reported so far. Wildfires are also burning in Greece and Spain, with large-scale evacuations underway. Villages in France and Spain have been destroyed, and hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes and holiday accommodation. The summer has seen record heatwaves and little rain across Europe.
