CIA role in Iran riots

A report by an American news website has shed light on the role of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in recent deadly riots in Iran. The study conducted by the Mint Press News has revealed how NGOs financed by the CIA, including the US-based Human Rights Activists in Iran, are stirring outrage and fomenting violence inside Iran. Reports by the rights group have become the source of many of the inflammatory claims and shockingly high casualty figures in the mainstream media. According to the Mint Press News, the Human Rights Activists in Iran is financed by the CIA through its cutout organization, the National Endowment for Democracy. In 2024 alone, the organization had allocated over $900,000 to the rights group. The report also pointed to another organization named Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights. Its reports on Iran’s protests have also been widely cited in the media. The center is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy.

Clashes resume in Syria

Deadly fighting between the Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham army (HTS) and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) resumes in northeast Syria despite a ceasefire agreement on Sunday. The HTS army has announced the killing of three of its soldiers. The SDF says it is fighting to defend a prison holding Daesh terrorists near Raqqa city. This comes as another prison in the Hasakah Governorate is now out of its control after HTS attacks killed and injured dozens of fighters. An SDF spokesperson stated that a nearby international coalition base did not intervene despite calls for help. Syrian authorities have also blamed the PKK for an explosion in Hasakah that has wounded several people. The ceasefire is aimed at putting prisons holding Daesh terrorists under HTS control and integrating the SDF into its forces. A meeting between the self-appointed Syrian president and the SDF chief is expected on Monday.

EU slams US 'economic blackmail'

Donald Trump’s threats to implement increasing tariffs on European allies until Washington is allowed to buy Greenland is drawing strong reactions from European leaders. The German Vice chancellor has warned of a strong response to what he calls US economic blackmail. The German official says the European Union must be prepared to use its full arsenal of retaliatory measures to push back against the threats. British Prime minister Keir Starmer has also slammed US threats calling the use of tariffs against allies completely wrong. Starmer says the future of Greenland must be decided by the island’s people and the Kingdom of Denmark. France has also expressed full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland, saying that Washington’s blackmail is unacceptable. EU leaders are set to discuss counter measures at an emergency summit in Brussels later this week. This comes as Trump has linked his demand to wrest Greenland to not being awarded the Nobel peace prize, saying he no longer feels obliged to think only of peace.
