Israel has demolished over 2,500 buildings in Gaza since ceasefire: Report

Israel has demolished over 2,500 buildings in Gaza in violation of ceasefire.

Israel has demolished more than 2,500 buildings in the Gaza Strip since the start of the US-backed ceasefire last October, a report says.

Citing analysis of satellite imagery from Planet Labs, the New York Times (NYT) reported that the majority of the demolitions have occurred in territory on the Israeli-controlled side of the so-called yellow line, which runs down Gaza from north to south, splitting it in two halves.

Israeli forces were supposed to withdraw to the “yellow line” in October as part of the first phase of US President Donald Trump's 20-point Gaza ceasefire plan with Hamas.

“In satellite images taken shortly after the truce, clusters of intact buildings can be seen in the Shujaiya neighborhood, which spans the Yellow Line. Shots of the same area months later show that it has largely been reduced to wasteland,” the NYT wrote.

The satellite imagery showed that entire blocks have been erased since the ceasefire, along with farmland and agricultural greenhouses.

“Israel is wiping entire areas off the map,” Mohammed al-Astal, a political analyst in Gaza, said, adding, “The Israeli military is destroying everything in front of it – homes, schools, factories, and streets. There's no security justification for what it's doing.”

Shaul Arieli, a former Israeli army commander, also said, “This is absolute destruction,” adding, “It's not selective destruction, it's everything.”

Israel has so far killed over 71,000 Palestinians since the launch of the genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023 following the al-Aqsa Flood operation by Palestinian resistance in response to the regime’s occupation and relentless attacks.

A ceasefire deal was reached in the strip last October, but the Tel Aviv regime continues to violate it in defiance of international calls to abide by it.

Israeli intelligence reports leaked in the early stages of the war on Gaza suggested officials in the regime were seeking to implement a plan to forcefully relocate hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from Gaza to tent camps in the neighboring Sinai region in Egypt.
