US abduction of Maduro

The Venezuelan attorney general has accused the US of violating international law by kidnapping Nicolas Maduro, calling for his immediate release. Tarek William Saab said Maduro, in his capacity as president, has immunity and cannot be arrested or prosecuted by foreign courts even if they try to fabricate any false charges against him. He said Maduro’s immunity is not merely a personal or individual prerogative, but is rooted in Venezuela's constitution with universal application. Slamming the US military attack and abduction of Maduro, Saab emphasized that this action literally leaves international law and human rights on the brink of collapse. The Venezuelan official called for the immediate and unconditional release of Maduro and his wife. He stressed that their abduction is completely illegal and violates international law, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the US Constitution.

Gaza humanitarian crisis

The European Union has warned against the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza. The bloc called on Israel to allow operation of international NGOs to prevent further loss of life in the war-torn territory. In an official statement, the EU said as winter sets in, Palestinians are left exposed to heavy rain and falling temperatures, without safe shelter. It added that children in Gaza remain out of schools, while medical facilities are barely functioning, with minimal staff and equipment. The bloc stressed the need for the rapid, safe, and unimpeded delivery and sustained distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza. It also called on Israel not to implement the non-governmental organizations registration law in its current form. Based on the regime’s new rules, it has decided to ban the activities of more than 30 international aid NGOs operating in Gaza. The EU urged the regime to allow international NGOs to operate and deliver life-saving aid to civilians in need. It stressed that under international humanitarian law, all parties to a conflict must allow and facilitate the rapid and unimpeded passage of humanitarian relief.

Israel recognition of Somaliland

The government of Somalia has strongly condemned a visit by Israel's foreign minister to the breakaway region of Somaliland, calling it a violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Somalia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that any official presence, contact, or dealings within Somali territory without the explicit consent and authorization of its government is illegal. The ministry added that such actions contradict the principles and objectives of the UN Charter and the Constitutive Act of the African Union. It called on international bodies, including the United Nations and the African Union, to support Somalia’s territorial integrity. Israeli Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa'ar, visited Somaliland less than two weeks after the regime officially recognized independence of the region, which Somalia considers part of its territory. The move drew sharp criticism from the African Union, Egypt, and the European Union, all of them affirming the sovereignty of Somalia. Somaliland is located in northwestern Somalia along the strategic Gulf of Aden, and shares land borders with Ethiopia and Djibouti.
