The Lebanese army says it has discovered and dismantled an Israeli espionage device camouflaged and equipped with a camera south of the country.
According to a statement issued by the Lebanese Army Command's Orientation Directorate on Sunday, the device was found in the town of Yaroun, located in the Bint Jbeil district of the southern province of Nabatieh.
“As part of the ongoing engineering survey operations in the southern regions in light of the continued Israeli attacks, a specialised military unit found a disguised Israeli spy device equipped with a camera in the town of Yaroun – Bint Jbeil, and dismantled it,” read the statement.
The military also urged residents to stay vigilant, avoid suspicious objects, not to touch them, and to immediately report any findings to the nearest military post to ensure public safety and prevent potential harm.
Israel’s covert sabotage network in Lebanon drew attention last year when it carried out a large-scale attack on Hezbollah, detonating pagers used by the resistance group and killing and wounding many civilians.
The development came on the same day that Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed one person and wounded another.
According to Lebanon's official National News Agency, Israeli drones struck a car and a motorcycle in the southern Lebanese village of Yater.
Hezbollah and Israel have exchanged fire since October 8, 2023, a day after Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza.
By September 2024, Israel escalated the confrontation into a full-scale war, killing more than 4,000 Lebanese, most of them women and children.
Despite a ceasefire reached in November 2024, Israel continues near-daily strikes in southern Lebanon.
With full US backing, Israel still occupies five key areas, seeking to force the disarmament of Hezbollah, the group that has resisted and fought its aggression against Lebanon for decades.
