White House issues warning to Netanyahu over Gaza ceasefire violation: Report

The White House has delivered a stern message to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding his regime's recent aggressions in Gaza, which violate a ceasefire agreement brokered by US President Donald Trump.

According to two US officials speaking to Axios, the message was prompted by Israel's weekend assassination strike that killed Raed Saad, a high-ranking Hamas military commander.

This comes as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s adviser Jared Kushner express frustration with Netanyahu's approach. The Israeli PM is set to meet Trump at Mar-a-Lago on December 29.

The White House has been unambiguous in its stance that Israel's aggressions are detrimental to the peace process. A senior US official remarked, “We won’t allow you to ruin President Trump’s reputation after he brokered the deal in Gaza.”

Relations between the Trump administration and Netanyahu's regime are strained, especially regarding Israel's policies in Syria and the occupied West Bank.

The White House is eager to move past the genocidal war in Gaza and enhance Israel's relations with Arab nations, yet regional leaders remain skeptical of Netanyahu's intentions, complicating diplomatic efforts.

Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan said that the movement reserves the right to respond to the Zionist occupation’s violations of the ceasefire agreement, notably the assassination of Saad.

Speaking to Al Jazeera on Sunday, the Hamas leader paid tribute to the martyred commander, stating that he “dedicated himself to the Palestinian cause and the defense of his land and homeland.”

Hamdan accused the occupation forces of actively attempting to derail ongoing negotiations for the second phase of the truce.

He confirmed that intensive talks are underway with regional mediators, including Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, regarding the next stages of the ceasefire agreement.

However, he warned that the occupation’s actions are creating insurmountable obstacles.
