West Bank annexation bill freeze

The Israeli Prime Minister has ordered a freeze on the Knesset’s bills aimed at extending Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank following sharp criticisms. Netanyahu’s announcement came after President Trump stated he would not permit Israel to annex the territory and his deputy J. D. Vance called the vote a bizarre and foolish political exercise. Meanwhile Netanyahu’s office has labeled the Wednesday vote a “political provocation” by the opposition, aimed at sowing discord during Vance's visit to Israel. International organizations have already slammed the move. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Hamas denounced the bill, with the OIC describing it as a “blatant violation” of international law, UN resolutions, and ICJ advisory opinion.

Israel strikes on Lebanon

Israel has launched new airstrikes on Lebanon in violation of a fragile ceasefire with the Arab country. The attacks targeted southern and eastern parts of Lebanon including Bakaa valley, leaving two people dead. The viral images show massive plumes of smoke rising from the mountainous areas in the southern region. Israeli media claim the strikes hit military sites belonging to the Radwan force of the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah. It added the site was used for the production of strategic weapons. The attacks mark yet another violation of the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon that came into force in November 2024.

Iran warns IAEA

In response to the IAEA's comments, Iran has warned that repeating past threats will only lead to further failure. Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, emphasized that those who rely on failed threats will only face more setbacks. Grossi has claimed that US and Israeli strikes have damaged Iran's nuclear facilities, but they have not undermined the country's technical capabilities. He also noted that Iran still holds significant reserves of uranium enriched to 60%. Regarding Iran's restrictions on inspection of its damaged nuclear sites, Grossi has said if diplomacy fails, there is a risk of returning to the use of force. In reply, Araghchi has questioned whether Grossi's comments were made out of genuine concern or as a threat.
