'No talks with US'
Iran’s foreign ministry has rejected US President Donald Trump’s claim that negotiations with the Islamic Republic will begin on Monday, saying that Tehran is not in talks with the US. Baqaei said the Islamic Republic has no plans to host any country for talks or send a delegation for negotiations in the coming days. He said Iran and Oman are holding talks to provide a safe, temporary route through the Hormuz Strait. The foreign ministry spokesman said reaching an agreement with Oman over the route is not enough for the reopening of the strait, calling for an end to US attacks on Iran. He also slammed US-Israeli attacks against the Islamic Republic as an aggression against the entire region and against the security of all countries in West Asia.
Gaza ethnic cleansing toll
More Palestinians have been killed in Israeli crimes against civilians in the Gaza Strip despite a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. Gaza’s Health Ministry says 19 people have been martyred and 35 injured in 24 hours.
Despite a ceasefire that took effect in October last year, the Israeli military has been carrying out strikes in Gaza almost on a daily basis. The regime launched its genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023. The Gazans' death toll has risen to more than 73,300.
Arbaeen commemoration
Millions of pilgrims from across the world are in Iraq’s holy city of Karbala for Arbaeen, one of the largest religious gatherings on earth. The occasion marks the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad. Dressed in black, pilgrims participate in mourning ceremonies, religious processions and prayers honoring Imam Hussein and his companions. Iraqi authorities say over 4 million foreign visitors have crossed borders to join the pilgrimage, joining millions of Iraqi worshippers.
Over 3 million Iranians also took part in the huge congregation. Many traveled long distances on foot from the holy city of Najaf to Karbala as an expression of devotion. This year, Arba’een falls on August 5. The event marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein 14 centuries ago. Imam Hussein and 72 of his companions were martyred on Ashura during the Battle of Karbala while standing against the tyrant of the time.
