‘Israeli war crimes’: PFLP condemns mutilation of Palestinian martyrs’ bodies

Gaza health officials say the bodies of 120 Palestinians, who were returned by Israel, show signs of severe torture and execution, and their remains were with their hands and feet tied and eyes blindfolded and some vital organs were stolen.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has unequivocally condemned the brutal torture and mutilation of the bodies of Palestinian martyrs by Israeli forces, calling the acts "comprehensive war crimes and crimes against humanity."

According to medical reports, many of the 120 bodies of Palestinians returned to Gaza by Israeli authorities under the ceasefire agreement exhibited clear signs of torture and execution, including gunshot wounds to the head.

In a statement on Friday, the PFLP emphasized that these acts reflect Israel’s profound moral collapse and its ongoing efforts to dehumanize Palestinians, even posthumously.

The statement further said that the deliberate disfigurement of bodies and the erasure of identities reflect “a Nazi-like, fascist mindset aimed at concealing evidence and evading accountability.”

While Palestinian resistance groups show “the highest levels of ethics and humanity” in handling captives and remains, the Palestinian group said, the “fascist occupation persists in its savage violations, from torture to mutilation and erasure of identities.”

The statement called for immediate, independent, and international documentation of all cases of mutilation and abuse of bodies. It demands the immediate international arrest warrants and prosecution of Israeli authorities involved in those crimes.

As part of a recent ceasefire agreement, the bodies of approximately 400 Palestinians are to be returned to Gaza in exchange for the deceased Israeli captives. Israel has so far released 120 bodies.

Shocking evidence has emerged of their brutal torture and field executions after their detention.

Palestinian authorities and medical sources have now confirmed that some of the corpses showed signs of torture, execution, or having been run over by tanks. Others were without limbs.

Gaza’s Government Media Office on Friday confirmed that the bodies, dozens of which have yet to be formally identified, showed “conclusive evidence of field executions and brutal torture”.

Bodies with missing vital organs

Dr. Ismail al-Thawabta, Director General of the media office, said Israeli forces stole organs from the bodies of Palestinian detainees returned to Gaza.

He said dozens of bodies delivered near the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis were found mutilated and missing vital parts, including eyes, limbs, and internal organs.

“When we examined the bodies, we found that large parts were missing, there were half bodies, bodies without heads, without limbs, without eyes, and without internal organs.”

Mohammed Zaqout, director of hospitals in Gaza’s Health Ministry, also spoke about the “clear signs of torture” found on the bodies of Palestinians that were returned to the blockaded Palestinian territory.

“One body shows signs of hanging with a rope still wrapped around the neck, blindfolds around the eyes and bound hands. That martyr was placed as is and sent to us,” Zaqout said in southern Gaza.

Zaqout added that many of the bodies are unrecognizable, and only six killed Palestinian prisoners transferred from Israel have been identified so far.

Systematic torture

Elsewhere in the Friday statement, the PFLP also highlighted the ongoing suffering of Palestinian prisoners, particularly those from Gaza, who face “systematic torture, deliberate medical neglect, and severe abuse” in Israeli prisons,

The group demanded the establishment of effective international judicial mechanisms that go beyond traditional investigation committees to issue immediate arrest warrants for Israeli authorities implicated in these crimes.

“The evidence is overwhelming, witnessed by the entire world,” the PFLP said, warning that “these crimes will not go unpunished and will not expire with time.”

The Palestinian group pledged to pursue all those responsible “until justice is served.”

Palestinian prisoners have reported being held in tragic conditions, especially over the past two years of the Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

In multiple reports, prisoner rights groups and the United Nations have shed light on the systematic abuse being committed against the prisoners, including beatings, hunger, halt in visitations and medical negligence.

Many Palestinians view the thousands held by the regime as political prisoners or freedom fighters resisting decades of Israeli military occupation.

Last week, the regime and Gaza's Hamas resistance movement agreed to the first phase of a plan to bring a ceasefire to Gaza, release all Israeli captives remaining in the coastal sliver in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the entire Palestinian territory.
