Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman has strongly condemned the criminal actions of Zionist settlers, backed by the Israeli military, in attacking two mosques in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, as well as assaults on homes, beatings of Palestinians, and destruction of property and farmland.
Esmaeil Baghaei described the crimes late Thursday as a continuation of the "colonial genocide policy" of Israel in occupied Palestine.
Surveillance footage documented masked settlers breaking into the mosque’s inner rooms, before stepping outside to torch six vehicles belonging to local residents.
In the neighboring town of Burqa, another mosque, al-Noor, was targeted by an arson attack shortly afterwards, amid escalating violence by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. Attackers ignited tires and flammable materials at the doors in an attempt to burn the building down.
Expressing deep regret over the continued silence of human rights and international bodies, Baghaei stated that the ongoing inaction of the United Nations and the Security Council regarding the crimes of the racist Zionist regime has enabled continued lawlessness and the commission of the most severe international crimes against Palestinians and other regional countries.
The spokesman reminded Islamic governments and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation of their religious and legal responsibility to support the Palestinian nation in realizing their right to self-determination and halting the Zionist regime's "killing machine."
Baghaei called for practical measures through OIC mechanisms to protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque and other religious sites in occupied Palestine from continued Israeli aggression, as well as the prosecution and punishment of those responsible for these crimes.
On Tuesday, in response to one of the latest incidents, the Palestinian group Hamas also condemned illegal Israeli settlers for setting fire to a mosque in the village of Jiljilya near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
Settler attacks have exploded during Israel’s ongoing genocidal war on Gaza, which has killed more than 73,000 people since October 7, 2023.
