'Ceasefire isn’t enough’: Netizens demand Israel be held accountable for genocide

Palestinian women walk on a road in the Nuseirat refugee camp area in the central Gaza Strip on Sept. 29, 2025.

Social media users have reacted with mixed feelings of relief and respite to news of a recently agreed ceasefire deal between Israel and the Hamas resistance movement, calling on the world organizations and international community to take effective action against Israeli crimes in the besieged Palestinian territory.

Social media users from across the globe have shared their thoughts and feelings about the Gaza ceasefire agreement. While many are relieved that the Israeli aggression may finally come to an end, concerns remain about whether the regime will honor the deal in the long run.

Most of them have also urged legal action against Israelis who ordered and perpetrated war crimes. They say that the Israeli entity should be held "accountable for decades of occupation, apartheid and war crimes."

Assal Rad, an academic who holds a PhD in Middle East history, said that the ceasefire shouldn't hinder the perpetrators of the Gaza genocide from facing justice and accountability.

Leyla Hamed, a Moroccan-Spanish sports journalist, appealed to activists around the world to keep protesting and marching until "Israel faces justice for the entire system built on Palestinian dispossession."

Cedar Salvo, an activist and supporter of resistance, said that the Zionist regime will misuse the ceasefire to deflate momentum and escape accountability. The activist also stressed that a mechanism should be set in place to ensure that Israel complies with the terms of the ceasefire agreed with Palestinian resistance groups.

Leanne Mohamad, a British-Palestinian human rights campaigner and political activist, hinted that Israel and its US-led Western and regional backers, who "participated, aided and abetted this genocide, should continue to pay the price."

Omar Gaza, another prominent social media user, noted that the Gaza truce will not whitewash Israeli crimes and shouldn’t stop activists from demanding justice and accountability.

Lama Al-Arian, a documentary filmmaker, said Israel must be held responsible for killing hundreds of journalists and all other grave violations. The activist further accused Western media outlets of desperately attempting to justify and cover the killing of journalists by the Israeli forces. "We need media accountability now."

Another social media user went on to say Israel cannot be allowed to repair its tarnished image following the killing of thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians across the besieged territory during the aggression.

Commenting on the truce deal, Karim Wafa-Al Hussaini, a writer who holds a PhD in African-American history, said that the Israeli regime can never be trusted. He also demanded full liberation of the Israeli-occupied territories.

A social media account representing the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement said that a ceasefire today "will not stop Israel’s genocide against Palestinians."

Israeli attacks continued on Thursday in the besieged Gaza Strip despite an announcement by mediators that a ceasefire had been reached to end the two-year aggression on the besieged Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, a senior Hamas official has urged ceasefire mediators to ensure Israel’s full and immediate compliance with the terms of the agreement.

Osama Hamdan emphasized that Hamas will not proceed with any prisoner exchange until a comprehensive and unconditional ceasefire is formally declared.

He also reiterated the movement’s key demands, including a complete halt to the genocidal war and withdrawal of occupation forces from Gaza's key areas.

He stressed that governance of the Gaza Strip should be managed by independent Palestinian figures without Israel's interference.

Hamas has already confirmed its approval of the first phase of a ceasefire arrangement.

The movement praised Palestinians inside and outside the occupied territories for their resilience in defending their national rights.

The Islamic Jihad Movement has also endorsed the deal, which it regards as the fruit of resistance, not concession.

Asian countries, including Turkey, Pakistan, India and Japan, welcomed the ceasefire deal.

China has expressed hope for a permanent and comprehensive cessation of Israeli hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

Iran has reiterated support for any initiative aimed at halting the genocidal war on Gaza and restoring the fundamental rights of the Palestinians.
