Talks amid genocide

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says Gaza ceasefire talks in Sharm El-Sheikh are gaining critical momentum with lists of prisoners exchanged and tangible progress on key issues. Hamas confirmed that talks’ atmosphere is positive with progress regarding the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, ceasefire mechanisms, and prisoner exchanges. However, a final agreement has not yet been reached. Hamas welcomed the participation of Qatar's Prime Minister and the intelligence chiefs of both, Turkey and Egypt in the negotiations. Hamas called the coming hours "decisive," as Islamic Jihad and Palestinian liberation organization delegations are set to join the talks. US envoy Steve Witkoff is also in Sharm el-Sheikh for the talks, which come following a 20-point plan announced by US president Donald Trump last week.

UK crackdown on chants

The United Kingdom is tightening restrictions on Pro-Palestinian protests. According to British media, the UK Prime Minister has called for further police crackdown on pro-Palestinian marches. Starmer has instructed the Home Secretary to introduce tighter measures targeting pro-Palestinian demonstrators, specifically aiming to restrict certain chants deemed inflammatory. The chant "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" is among those considered antisemitic, though proponents argue it is a call to end apartheid. Earlier, UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood called on pro-Palestinian protesters to suspend marches following the Manchester synagogue attack. He said protests could be re-routed or even banned entirely if considered excessively disruptive. Despite existing measures, Starmer insisted that more could still be done.

Russia-Ukraine war

A senior Russian diplomat says the push for a peace agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine has largely run out of steam. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, who oversees relations with the United States and arms control, accused European powers of effectively sabotaging peace efforts. He said a powerful momentum in favour of agreements, which emerged after a summit between President Vladimir Putin and his Us counterpart Donald Trump in August, has been largely exhausted by the efforts of opponents and supporters of the war. Ryabkov also warned of the potential deployment of US Tomahawk missiles, saying it would represent a “qualitative change in the situation.”
