Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson has condemned the Israeli regime’s massacre of Al Jazeera journalists, saying a press badge offers no protection against war criminals bent on silencing witnesses to their atrocities.
“A press badge is no shield against genocidal war criminals who fear the world witnessing their atrocities,” wrote Esmaeil Baghaei on his X account on Monday.
Five more journalists, all from Al Jazeera, were murdered "in cold blood" in the "deliberate" airstrike by the Israeli regime on their tent in Gaza City, he stated.
He added that the crime took place as the people of Gaza are being slaughtered, starved, and targeted in Israeli-American “food traps.”
“Strong condemnation is the bare minimum for any decent human being, but the world must act immediately to stop this harrowing genocide and hold the criminals accountable. Indifference and inaction are complicity in Israel’s crimes.”

Also in his weekly press briefing on Monday, Baghaei said that the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the Israeli regime’s assassination of Al Jazeera journalists in the strongest terms.
“Attacking journalists and media outlets is never permissible under any circumstances. In times of war, such an attack is clearly and explicitly considered a war crime.”
Reacting to the approval of a plan by the cabinet of the Israeli regime to occupy Gaza, purportedly to “liberate Gaza from Hamas,” Baghaei stressed, “It was clear from the outset that the Israeli regime wants to seize Gaza and the West Bank and to erase Palestine as a country, identity, and people.”
He urged the international community to take credible and serious action to stop Israel’s genocidal measures in Gaza and act as soon as possible to prosecute the criminal leaders of the regime.
Al Jazeera's reporting team in Gaza, which included journalists Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh, as well as cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Aliwa, was in a tent for journalists at al-Shifa Hospital when it was struck by the Israeli forces on Sunday night. The attack resulted in the death of the entire team.
A sixth journalist, Mohammad al-Khaldi, was also killed in last night’s air attack outside al-Shifa Hospital alongside the five Al Jazeera staff, Reuters reported, quoting hospital staff.
Since the start of its genocidal campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023, at least 186 journalists have been killed during the war, according to figures by the Committee to Protect Journalists. Authorities in Gaza say Israel has killed nearly 270 journalists and media workers since October 2023.
