US-Israeli genocide in Gaza
More Palestinian civilians are killed across the Gaza Strip as the US-Israeli genocide rages on. In one of the latest strikes, at least five people were killed after Israeli forces struck a group of civilians near the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. Meanwhile, Israeli troops opened fire on Palestinians near the Netzarim aid distribution center, killing at least two people and injuring several others. Aid centers have been the primary target of Israeli attacks for weeks, resulting in more than one-thousand fatalities as a result of direct fire. The US-Israeli genocide, which began in October 2023, has so far killed nearly 61,370 Palestinians and left almost 153,000 others injured.
UK pro-Palestine rally
More than 150 people have been arrested as protesters gathered in central London to show support for Palestine Action in defiance of its blacklisting as a terror group. The group Defend Our Juries, which organized the demonstration, said around 700 people were in Parliament Square. The Metropolitan Police announced it would arrest anyone expressing support for Palestine Action. Our correspondent, Saeed Pourreza, joined us earlier with more details.
Arba'een March
Millions of pilgrims from across the world are converging on the Iraqi holy city of Karbala for the annual commemoration of Arba’een. The pilgrims are making the journey toward the holy city on foot. More than two million Iranians have crossed the border so far to participate in the Arba’een mourning ceremony. Karbala houses the shrine of Imam Hussein, the third Shia imam and the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. The pilgrimage is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. This year, Arba’een falls on August 15. The event marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein on Ashura. Imam Hussein and dozens of his companions were martyred on Ashura during the Battle of Karbala nearly fourteen centuries ago.
