Iran: European support for Israeli-US aggression ‘normalizes lawlessness’

This combo photo shows Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi (R) and Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation, Maxime Prévot.

Iran has criticized some European countries for supporting the recent Israeli-US aggression against the country, saying their “inappropriate” stance on the assault “normalizes lawlessness”.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the remarks on Friday during a telephone conversation with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation, Maxime Prévot.

He said the Israeli and American strikes on Iran flagrantly violated the United Nations Charter and international law, and dealt a severe blow to diplomacy and the nuclear non-proliferation regime.

Araghchi said the “irresponsible” behavior of some European states towards the illegal aggression “normalizes lawlessness and exacerbates insecurity in the region and the world.”

Between June 13 and 24, Israel waged a blatant and unprovoked aggression against Iran, killing at least 1,060 people, including high-ranking military commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary civilians.

On June 22, the United States also jumped on the bandwagon and bombed three Iranian nuclear sites.

Also in his remarks, the top Iranian diplomat denounced Israel’s ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip and the inaction of the UN Security Council in the face of horrific crimes against Palestinian people, as well as the occupying regime’s continuous military aggression against Syria and Lebanon.

He further noted that Israel enjoys impunity due to the military and political support of the United States and certain European countries.

All states should take responsibility for confronting the Zionist regime's gross violations of international law, Araghchi said.

Prévot, for his part, voiced concerns about the consequences of the latest conflict gripping the region, calling on all parties to make efforts towards preventing the escalation of tensions.

He also emphasized that Belgium supports diplomacy to resolve issues, such as Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran calls for regional action against Israel

On Thursday, the Iranian foreign minister spoke over phone with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty.

During the call, Araghchi expressed deep concerns about the recent developments in Syria, along with Israel’s attacks on the Arab country and Lebanon, and the regime’s genocide in Gaza.

He also underlined the urgent need for a coordinated action by regional countries to counter the Zionist regime’s warmongering and expansionist policies, which disrupt stability and security in the entire West Asia.

Abdelatty, for his part, reaffirmed Egypt’s position in support of Syria’s territorial integrity and the preservation of the rights of all minorities, saying Cairo is opposed to attempts aimed at disintegrating Syria.
