US-Israeli genocide in Gaza

More Palestinian women and children fall victim to Israel’s incessant attacks in Gaza, as the regime presses ahead with its genocidal war across the territory. One of the latest strikes killed several Palestinians and injured many others in Beit Hanoun, in northern Gaza. A Palestinian woman succumbed to injuries she had sustained several days ago when an Israeli drone targeted a gathering of civilians in Deir al-Balah. To the south, another Palestinian woman died due to injuries she had suffered several days ago, when her family house was bombed south of Khan Yunis. One civilian was killed in a drone strike on an area south of Khan Yunis, while the regime's artillery fire on al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Yunis, killed a young Palestinian man. The Israeli genocide in Gaza has killed over 52,000 Palestinians, so far, leaving more than 118,000 others injured. The fatality figure includes more than 23,000 civilians, who have lost their lives since the resumption of the regime's onslaught on March 18.

Israel closing UNRWA schools

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees warns that Israel’s plan to close its schools in the occupied West Bank will deprive eight-hundred Palestinian students of the right to education. UNRWA said the closure orders issued by Israeli officials against six schools in the occupied East al-Quds will come into effect in less than 10 days. UNRWA schools in the Shuafat refugee camp, Silwan, Wadi al-Joz, and Sur Baher in al-Quds are the ones set to be shut down next month. The agency said the move constitutes a violation of Israel’s obligations under international law. In October 2024, the Israeli parliament overwhelmingly approved two laws prohibiting UNRWA from conducting any activities inside the occupied Palestinian territories, revoking its privileges and facilities, and prohibiting any official contacts with it. The decision went into effect at the end of January this year.

Recognizing Palestinian state

Iran has once again reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to have an independent and sovereign state of their own, with the occupied city of al-Quds as its capital. Iran's permanent UN ambassador made the remarks in an address to the Security Council. Stressing that the Palestinian right to self-determination is non-negotiable, Amir Saeid Iravani said it is time for Palestine to become a full UN member without conditions. He added that the General Assembly has supported Palestine's membership through a resolution with over 140 votes in favor. However, the US ignored the global community's will by vetoing the resolution at the Security Council. Iravani stressed that the main threat to peace and stability in the region comes from the terrorist and destabilizing actions of the Israeli regime, and its main sponsor, the US. He also urged the Security Council to force Israel to withdraw its occupying forces from the Palestinian territories, Lebanon, and Syria, and end its ongoing acts of aggression and violations.
