The top Iranian and Qatari diplomats have stressed the need for serious efforts and action to bring an end to Israel's attacks on Syria's infrastructure and its expansion of the Arab country's occupation.
During a telephone conversation on Thursday, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, who is also the prime minister of Qatar, discussed regional developments, especially those in Syria.
They also exchanged views on the continuation of bilateral and multilateral consultations on Syria to help create stability there and form an inclusive political establishment based on the will of its people.
Israel started the push to grab more Syrian land on Sunday, after foreign-backed militants, led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), announced the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s government following a rapid two-week offensive that led to the capture of the capital Damascus.
The Israeli military seized the buffer zone, which separates the occupied Golan Heights from the rest of Syria, and advanced beyond the demilitarized area.
The regime's army further conducted about 480 strikes across Syria and destroyed 70-80 percent of the country’s strategic military capabilities.
Several regional countries said Israel is taking advantage of the chaotic situation in Syria to expand its occupation of the Arab state.
The Arab League has also condemned Israel’s “illegal actions” in Syria.
“The General Secretariat reiterates its unequivocal condemnation of Israel’s (the occupying power) illegal actions, which exploit Syria’s internal challenges,” the Arab League said in a statement.
“These include attempts to expand occupation in the Golan Heights or to unilaterally nullify the 1974 disengagement agreement, actions that flagrantly violate international law.”
