Iran Leader remarks
The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution has been paying tribute to late President Ebrahim Raeisi, saying his administration was one of diligence, hope and progress on both domestic and foreign fronts. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said such features were fully evident and palpable. He made the remarks in a meeting with the outgoing cabinet members of Iran’s 13th administration. The Leader said Raeisi was rightly optimistic about the future and wanted to achieve his goals with the cooperation of other officials. Ayatollah Khamenei said one of the main characteristics of Raeisi was that he was a man of the people and this must serve as a role model for other government officials. The Leader said Raeisi appeared among the public and based his plans and agendas on their needs. Raeisi and his companions passed away in a helicopter crash in May. He will be succeeded by Masoud Pezeshkian, who was chosen following two rounds of elections.
US-Israeli genocide in Gaza
Nine months into the Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, the regime continues with its relentless air and artillery strikes on the blockaded territory. In one of the latest attacks, at least six Palestinians were killed after Israeli warplanes targeted a house in the town of al-Zawaida in central Gaza. Earlier, several airstrikes on UN-run schools in al-Nusierat refugee camp left at least 16 Palestinians dead. The attacks also left around 50 others injured. Meanwhile, Israeli artillery shelling targeted several areas across the besieged Gaza, leaving an unknown number of Palestinians dead. The US-Israeli aggression on Gaza began early last October. Since then, more than 38,000 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 88-thousand injured.
French snap election
Voting is underway in the second and final round of France’s snap legislative elections that will reshape the country’s political landscape. Opinion polls are forecasting that Marine Le Pen’s far-right party will win the most votes but likely fall short of a majority. That could plunge the country into a chaotic hung parliament. There are fears of violence in Paris and other French cities. President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the parliament and called for two rounds of snap elections last month. This came after his party’s defeat by the far right in the recent European Parliament vote. In the first round of France’s parliamentary elections, the far-right National Rally party emerged victorious with more than 29 percent of the vote.
