Iran: ​​​​​​​Cessation of Israeli crimes in Gaza sole way to halt regional crisis

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has underlined the need for stopping Israeli war crimes and genocide of Palestinians as a fundamental step in halting the crisis in the entire region. 

In a telephone conversation with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Thursday night, Amir-Abdollahian pointed to unraveling developments in Gaza, and stressed that an end to Israeli war crimes and genocide of Palestinian people serves as an important step towards settlement of regional crises.

"Any coalition and escalatory measures similar to what the US and the UK did by attacking Yemen will not only fail to help restore stability to the region but will also lead to a more complicated situation," the top Iranian diplomat pointed out, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry's press service. 

"The Islamic Republic of Iran advises all parties to take immediate, effective, and sustainable measures, focusing on the main roots of the crisis, because the root of the crisis lies in the occupation," Amir-Abdollahian added. 

Israel launched hostilities in Gaza following a historic operation by the Gaza-based Hamas resistance group against the occupying entity on October 7 in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

More than 110 days into the campaign, the regime has achieved no objectives despite killing at least 27,000 people in Gaza, around 70 percent of them women and children. Another 66,139 individuals have sustained injuries as well.

UN: Israeli war renders Gaza ‘uninhabitable;’ restoration will take ‘decades’

The UN says the ongoing Israeli war has left the Gaza Strip “uninhabitable” and that the destruction will take “decades” to reverse.

Amir-Abdollahian praised Borrell for his positive role and stressed the need to keep on the path of dialogue to resolve crises. He also highlighted the strong and constructive communication channel between the European Union and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

For his part, Borrell voiced his concern over rising tensions in the Red Sea and underscored the role that Iran can play in restoring stability in West Asia.

He elaborated on the European Union’s decision to form a maritime alliance to allegedly protect commercial vessels in the Red Sea, saying that the maritime coalition is not aimed at any third country.

The two sides also underlined the importance of dialogue in helping restore regional and international stability and called for contact between Iran and the European Union at different levels.

Palestinian resistance leaders brief Iran on Gaza ceasefire proposal

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has held talks with Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders about a new proposal for ceasefire in Gaza, stressing that only the Palestinian people have the right to decide their future.

The conversation came after the Iranian minister held separate phone talks with Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, Islamic Jihad chief Ziyad Nakhala, and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry to discuss the regional developments, in particular the situation in Gaza. 

Taking to X on Thursday, Amir-Abdollahian wrote in a post in Persian that during the conversations, "the latest proposals to end the Zionist regime's genocide in Gaza, deliver extensive aid to this area and prevent the forced displacement of people in Gaza and the West Bank were discussed."

Despite the heavy toll of deaths, injuries, and destruction in Gaza, the resistance and the Palestinian people remain steadfast and determined in their quest for securing their rights, he added. 

"The Islamic Republic of Iran always says that war is not the solution," he stressed.
