The US vice-presidential debate was not like last week’s debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, but there were sharp contrasts on policy and even a party crasher on during the vice-presidential debate between Mike Pence and Kamala Harris.

While US President Donald Trump and former vice-president Joe Biden are the ruling Republican and Democrat nominees for the upcoming election, various third-party candidates will also appear on some ballots.

Independent and third-party candidates do not usually appear on enough ballots to secure the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency, but they do have the potential to impact who wins the election.
