Iran exercises full control over Strait of Hormuz, Persian Gulf: Senior commander
A senior Iranian military commander says the country exercises full control over the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, reiterating the armed forces’ readiness to confront any threat.
Army Chief of Staff and Deputy Coordinator Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari made the remark on Monday as he elaborated on the latest situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The western part of the Strait of Hormuz, the strait itself, and the Persian Gulf are under the full control of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, while the eastern part of the Strait of Hormuz and the northern Indian Ocean are under the full control of the Army Navy,” he said.
“We act powerfully in the northern Sea of Oman and east of the Strait of Hormuz and will not allow anyone to pass,” he added.
The commander also emphasized the high level of readiness of the Iranian Army to confront any threat, saying every war provides lessons that should be used to enhance military capabilities.
Sayyari emphasized that the Army has identified its weaknesses and is working to address them while preparing for future developments.
“Today, we can say that we are far more prepared than before,” he pointed out.
The Iranian Army has gradually addressed its weaknesses, strengthened its capabilities and is ready to confront threats, the commander said.
Iranian armed forces have been in full control of the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the US-Israeli aggression against the country on February 28.
Commercial traffic through the strait has fallen sharply, with vessel movements dropping to single digits amid the ongoing war on Iran and the restrictions on shipping through the strategic waterway.
Tehran has said it will not reopen the waterway until the United States meets its demands and takes steps to restore Iran's trust.
