UK police arrest pro-Palestinian protesters outside Labour Party convention
The UK police have arrested pro-Palestinian protesters outside the Labour Party convention in Liverpool.
In a statement published on Sunday, police confirmed having arrested more than 50 people.
In the statement, police claimed it respected the right of people to protest lawfully, while it also aimed to keep the peace and ensure public safety.
The police also claimed that those who had been taken into custody at the protest, which was organized by Defend Our Juries, a UK-based activist group formed in 2020 by lawyers, displayed material in support of the banned activist group Palestine Action.
Palestine Action was proscribed as a “terrorist” organization in the UK in July 2025 amid the brutal Israeli regime forces' genocidal war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The UK government proscribed Palestine Action as a “terrorist” organization under the Terrorism Act 2000.
More than 250 pro-Palestine activists were staging a peaceful sit-in protest outside the Labour Party conference venue when dozens of police began making the arrests.
Activists said they thought being arrested by police for staging a peaceful protest is nothing compared to what the innocent Palestinian men, women and children are suffering daily.
“Being arrested is nothing in comparison to what the people in Gaza are going through, and it’s also worth it, because this is about our right to free speech,” one protester said.
Another protester said that the activists gathered there in support of the Palestinians did not belong to any group and were just conscientious people, including “priests, there are healthcare workers, there are people who deeply care, and deeply care about right and wrong.”
Robert Del Naja, an English band singer, was among those arrested at the peaceful gathering.
Since Palestine Action was designated as a "terrorist" group, all legal action taken by the supporters of the organization to overturn the proscription has failed.
Huda Ammori, co-founder of Palestine Action, however, has vowed to continue to take legal action until the proscription banning pro-Palestinian protests is removed.
I will “fight proscription all the way” to the Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights to overturn “one of the most extreme attacks on free speech and the right to protest in modern British history,” she said.
