The Lebanese Ministry of health has declared hundreds of confirmed cases of Coronavirus. This comes as the country is witnessing almost complete closure of institutions in efforts to curb the spread of the pandemic.

The scene on Beirut streets is not very different from major world capitals. Novel Corona virus has spread in a quick manner in Lebanon with hundreds of confirmed cases and some suspected ones. Lebanon’s government has begun a general mobilization plan which experts call phase three of a medical emergency plan.

The legislative and governmental institutions have also adhered to the shutdown except for the cabinet and those linked to the health sector:

The government has allowed the food industry to continue its work and provide basic needs for the people, but many businesses including restaurants have shut down. This has added to the burden of municipalities which have been working hard to provide for the basic needs of people.

Despite Lebanon being on the verge of declaring a complete state of emergency, Lebanese people woke up to a ray of light today after the public Rafik Hariri University Hospital in Beirut declared that five more corona virus patients have recovered after being treated here at the hospital.

Yet the crisis in far from over. With many cases being of unknown origin many are calling for an emergency state. For now, all non-essential institutions are subject to a shutdown, and a lockdown of the country has also been necessary including closing the border crossings and stopping all civilian airline flights.
