Canada has celebrated victory in the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship with a 6-1 victory over defending champion Russia in the final held in Prague, the Czech Republic.

Powered by NHL stars, Canada grabbed its first gold since 2007 and the first medal at the worlds since 2009.

The Canadians won all 10 matches. They scored 66 goals and conceded 15.

In the final showdown, Canada, the 2010 and 2014 Olympic champion, poured 37 shots on Columbus keeper Sergei Bobrovski in the Russian woodwork. The Russians had 12 shots.

Canada, however, opened the scoring after 19 minutes as Dallas wing Cody Eakin tipped in a shot by Buffalo forward Tyler Ennis.

Two minutes into the second time, Ennis beat Bobrovski with a shot between his skate and the post. The score was 2-0.

Sidney Crosby, the Pittsburgh center, added another in the 28th minute after receiving a superb pass from Edmonton wing Jordan Eberle.

Philadelphia center Claude Giroux should have netted the fourth a minute later, passing the puck to Tyler Seguin, who tapped in.

Fed by Crosby, Giroux scored a power-play goal on 49 minutes as Bobrovski failed to block a wrist shot a minute later by Nathan MacKinnon.

Russia’s consolation goal came as Pittsburgh star Evgeni Malkin found the net four minutes later after tipping in a shot by Sergei Mozyakin.

Earlier in the day, the United States bagged the bronze medal by defeating the host Czech Republic 3-0.
