Iran’s delegation has finished runner-up at the fifth Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai after securing a record-breaking 262 medals, marking the most successful outing in the country’s history at the continental youth para-sport event.

The Games, hosted by the United Arab Emirates from December 10 to 14, concluded with Iran collecting 76 gold, 96 silver, and 90 bronze medals across 21 sports disciplines.

Competing against athletes from 34 Asian countries, the Iranian team, titled “Children of Iran, Ambassadors of Victory” and competing under the motto “Faith, Resistance, Authority,” delivered a performance that highlighted the rapid development of the nation’s youth para-sport programs.

A total of 194 Iranian athletes took part, competing in 11 boys’ and 10 girls’ disciplines. The medal haul represented a significant increase compared with the previous edition in Bahrain in 2021, where Iran won 144 medals with 145 athletes and finished as overall champion.

Despite the substantial improvement in total medals, Iran placed second overall in Dubai.

Uzbekistan topped the medal table with 99 gold, 57 silver, and 41 bronze medals, while Japan finished third with 40 gold, 25 silver, and 12 bronze medals.

Iran’s strongest performances came in swimming and athletics, which accounted for the bulk of the medals.

Swimming delivered 104 medals, while athletics contributed 82. Additional medals were won in archery, powerlifting, taekwondo, table tennis, three-on-three wheelchair basketball, goalball, and boccia.
