Iran, resistance forces to deliver ‘devastating’ response to any threat: Top commander
Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces has stressed that the Islamic Republic and resistance fighters will deliver a “devastating” response to any threat against the Muslim nation.
Major General Ali Abdollahi made the remarks in a message on Monday in the wake of the martyrdom anniversary of Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, the former leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement.
“The Zionist-American enemy thought that by physically eliminating the Seyyed of Resistance, the central pillar of the resistance would collapse, but the enemy's calculations once again ended in failure,” he said, using the nickname of Nasrallah.
Abdollahi added that the assassination of Nasrallah has failed to weaken the axis of resistance, adding that his path continues with firmness.
“The resistance front is not only not weakened, but has achieved a clear and covert strategic integration, and the path of Martyr Seyyed Nasrallah continues resolutely in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen and Iraq and across the farthest reaches of the geography of resistance and the pursuit of justice,” the top commander said.
He emphasized that Iran’s armed forces and the forces of the Islamic Resistance are “fully” prepared to deliver “a decisive and devastating response to any threat against the Islamic Ummah”.
Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was martyred on September 27, 2024, in a large Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiyeh, where Hezbollah has a strong presence.
The strike targeted several residential buildings in the Haret Hreik area using bunker-buster munitions. Hezbollah confirmed Nasrallah’s death the following day.
Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem vowed on Sunday that resistance against Israel will continue until the “complete expulsion” of Israeli forces from occupied territories, adding that the movement is committed to “an Islamic, national and humanitarian cause.”
During a ceremony marking the second martyrdom anniversary of Nasrallah, which was attended by tens of thousands of people in Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday, Sheikh Qassem said Nasrallah had become a symbol and source of inspiration for freedom movements around the world, adding that Hezbollah would continue down the path of its former leader.
“Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah built a strong and steadfast popular base for the resistance, and we will continue along this path,” Sheikh Qassem stressed.
