Iran's retaliatory operations
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has carried out retaliatory strikes after the US launched acts of aggression on southern Iran. The IRGC said that its Aerospace Force hit the US military Camp Titin in Jordan with a salvo of ballistic missiles, killing and injuring a number of American forces. The IRGC also said its ballistic missiles targeted two hangars housing RQ-4 and MQ-9 drones in Jordan’s Prince Hassan Air Base, destroying a number of drones and killing their pilots. American bases in the northern Iraqi city of Erbil were targeted as well. The US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait were hit in the retaliatory strikes, too. The IRGC called on the people in Jordan and Kuwait that their countries should not host US bases.
Slamming US crimes
The Iranian Parliament Speaker has condemned the strikes on Iran’s civilian areas, describing the US as the Great Satan. In a post on X, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf referred to the deadly attack on a wedding event in Sirik as well as strikes in February on a school in Minab and a sports hall in Lamerd, during which children were killed. Ghalibaf said if a power acts like Satan, picks targets like Satan and kills like Satan, it is itself Satan. The attacks on Minab and Lamerd that Ghalibaf was referring to occurred on the first day of the imposed war on Iran. Nearly 200 civilians, most of them schoolchildren, lost their lives in those strikes.
US military purge
US War Secretary Pete Hegseth has fired or blocked the promotions of more than 80 generals and admirals, at a time the military is under pressure due to the war on Iran. The purge has targeted about 10% of the military’s top officers, including seven Army officers recently removed from a two-star promotion list. More than half of those affected are Black or female, while the number of women nominated for general and admiral ranks has fallen to its lowest level in at least 25 years. Critics say the removals are apparently driven by political and ideological considerations rather than performance. This comes as Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll resigned following months of tensions with Hegseth. The moves have also drawn criticism in Congress, with Senator Jack Reed calling them illegal.
