US senator says Israel ‘not aligned’ with US national security objectives
US Senator Chris Murphy has emphasized that the policies pursued by the ruling leadership in the Israeli regime are “not aligned” with Americans’ national security and interests.
During an appearance on NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” Murphy cited war-mongering actions and comments of the Tel Aviv leaders during the Zionist regime’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip and their discourse amid the US-Israeli war on Iran.
“I support Israel. I cannot support this [regime’s] actions. They are not aligned with US national security objectives,” said the Democratic senator from Connecticut.
“And so I think that until we have a different [cabinet] and a different policy in Israel, it’s going to be hard for people like me that want a Palestinian state, side by side with a Jewish state in the region, to support continuing to send arms to Israel,” he insisted.
Murphy’s remarks follow Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement of his refusal to accept the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Netanyahu said on Sunday that as long as he is at the helm of the Israeli entity “a Palestinian state will NOT be established, neither in Gaza nor in Judea and Samaria.”
Murphy proposed to US lawmakers to mount pressure on Israel by cutting off funding to Tel Aviv, and instead spending the US taxpayers’ money on policies aligned with Americans’ national security and interests. He warned that the Trump administration is facing a dire strategic reality, urging an immediate end to US hostilities against Gaza and Iran, even if it means accepting highly unfavorable terms.
He confessed that US President Donald Trump “has lost this war” and pointed out that every day the hostilities continue, the US is getting weaker while Iran is growing stronger.
