Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has strongly condemned the deadly terrorist attacks that rocked southwestern Pakistan this week/
On Friday, Esmaeil Baghaei strongly condemned the terrorist attack that hit the city of Khuzdar in the southwestern province of Balochistan, which killed and injured many Pakistanis.
He offered the Islamic Republic’s sincere sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and Pakistan’s people and government.
Reiterating Tehran’s principled stance in firmly condemning all forms of terrorism and extremism, Baghaei emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation and coordination among regional countries to effectively and continuously counter terrorism, especially through identifying, prosecuting, and punishing the perpetrators, organizers, supporters, and financiers of terrorist acts.
Nearly 40 people have been killed in the latest attacks that unfolded in the province of Balochistan, according to the Pakistani military.
On Monday, dozens of militants descended upon a post guarding the large Mangi dam project in Balochistan’s Ziarat district, killing nine police officers and kidnapping 18 others. The abductees were later killed.
Then, on Wednesday, militants ambushed a vehicle as it traveled on a Balochistan highway, killing the 11 soldiers.
Pakistan has been battling a separatist militancy for years in Balochistan, the country’s largest, but least populated, province bordering Afghanistan and Iran.
Militants from the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) -which is separate from, but maintains ties with the Afghan Taliban– and the banned Balochistan Liberation Army have targeted state forces, foreign investment projects and infrastructure in the mineral-laden region.
