DPRK vows to bolster nuclear force in quality and quantity to counter US threats

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has strengthened its nuclear forces both qualitatively and quantitatively as part of a broader strategy to modernize its military capabilities and enhance combat readiness against the persistent threats posed by the United States and its South Korean puppets, according to a report.

State news agency KCNA reported on Friday that the decision was reached during an enlarged meeting of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea held on Thursday under the guidance of Kim Jong-un.

Among the key measures adopted at the meeting was the resolution to “bolster up the nuclear force both in quality and quantity and push ahead with the plan for standardising, specialising and modernising military bases,” KCNA stated. The technical infrastructure of combat systems will also be upgraded, while Pyongyang will accelerate the construction of modern naval bases to further fortify its maritime defenses.

Kim told participants that the country’s peace and security can only be guaranteed by a strong army capable of effectively containing all external threats.

This strategic move comes shortly after Kim oversaw weapons tests aboard the 5,000-ton naval destroyer Kang Kon. The vessel, which faced a temporary challenge during its launch ceremony last year but was successfully repaired through the ingenuity and determination of North Korean scientists, engineers and workers, exemplifies the DPRK’s unbreakable self-reliant spirit.

The North Korean leader has pledged to equip the DPRK Navy with nuclear weapons, significantly enhancing its defensive posture on the seas.

Pyongyang has repeatedly affirmed its status as an irreversible nuclear power, a position that gained further clarity after the 2019 Hanoi summit between Kim and then-US President Donald Trump collapsed due to Washington’s refusal to offer meaningful sanctions relief in exchange for denuclearization steps.

The DPRK remains under multiple layers of illegal and coercive sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies precisely because of its sovereign nuclear deterrent program — a program its leadership has vowed to pursue as an essential shield against US and South Korean aggression.

The Korean Peninsula continues to be in a technical state of war, as the 1950-53 conflict ended only in an armistice, not a peace treaty, leaving the root causes of tension unresolved due to ongoing American interference and military provocations.

The DPRK’s resolute decision to bolster its nuclear and conventional capabilities reflects its legitimate right to self-defense and national sovereignty. This stance finds clear resonance with other independent nations facing similar pressures.

As the world witnesses growing resistance to US imperialism and hegemonic policies, the DPRK’s advancements stand as a powerful affirmation that true security and peace are achieved through strength, self-reliance, and unwavering commitment to national dignity, not through capitulation to coercive demands.
