Leader’s advisor vows Resistance ‘ready to pull trigger’ to ‘cleanse’ the region

A senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has warned that the Axis of Resistance is "ready to pull the trigger" to "cleanse" the region of American forces, following US strikes on southern Iran and President Donald Trump's remarks that the US-Iran memorandum of understanding (MoU) is "over".

Ali Akbar Velayati, foreign policy advisor to the Leader, issued the warning on social media as tensions escalated over the Strait of Hormuz.

"We had previously warned that the region is not a place for political gambling by small countries, and we have repeatedly proven that adventurism will be met with an immediate response," Velayati wrote.

"But the responsibility for the new provocations and the verbal acknowledgment of the cancellation of the memorandum, which had already been repeatedly violated in practice, is once again pushing the region toward fire," he added.

Velayati stressed that the Axis of Resistance "does not remain silent in the face of insults and adventurism" and, recalling the demand to avenge the late Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said they are "ready to pull the trigger" to "Leader’s advisor vows Resistance ‘ready to pull trigger’ to ‘cleanse’ the region" the region.

The warning came after the United States launched a fresh wave of military strikes against Iranian targets on Wednesday, claiming to have hit over 80 sites, including air defense systems, coastal radar sites, and more than 60 IRGC small boats in the Strait of Hormuz.

In response, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said it carried out a joint missile and drone operation against 85 key US military installations at Port Salman, home to the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.

The IRGC also announced it had shot down an MQ-9 Reaper drone that attempted to interfere with the operation.

The US strikes came as millions of mourners in Iran and Iraq participated in funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Khamenei, who was martyred on February 28 on the first day of the unprovoked US-Israeli aggression against Iran.

The IRGC described the attacks as an attempt by Washington to overshadow the "historic" gatherings.

Speaking at a NATO summit in Ankara on Wednesday, Trump declared the ceasefire agreement "over."

"I think it's over. I don't want to deal with them anymore," Trump said. 

Despite saying the truce was "over," Trump added that US negotiators would be allowed to continue talks "if they want," but said he saw it as "a waste of time."

Iran's top negotiator, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, said the US was breaching the ceasefire agreement, citing the latest military strikes, renewed oil sanctions, violations of Iranian arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, and continued Israeli attacks against Lebanon.

Millions have gathered in Iraq’s Najaf and Karbala for funeral ceremonies honoring martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, with Iraqi groups and media reporting turnout in the millions.

"The era of bullying and extortion is over," Qalibaf wrote on X. "We don't fold."

The United States and Israel launched their unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on February 28, 2026.

The war saw Iran's armed forces respond with 100 waves of retaliatory strikes under Operation True Promise 4.

A ceasefire brokered by Pakistan took effect in early April, and then on June 18, Iran and the United States signed a 14‑point MoU extending the truce by 60 days and committing both sides to an “immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts.”

The final funeral ceremony is scheduled to take place in Mashhad on Thursday. Ayatollah Khamenei will be laid to rest at the shrine of Imam Reza (peace be upon him).
