President Masoud Pezeshkian has hailed Iran’s runner-up finish at the 2026 FISU World University Championship Combat Sports in Brazil, saying the achievement reflects the determination, talent, and competence of the nation’s youth.
“Winning the valuable title of world runner-up by the student delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (Minab 168) at the World University Championship Combat Sports in Brazil, along with earning 30 colorful medals, demonstrated a brilliant manifestation of the firm determination, capability, and competence of this land’s youth,” the Iranian President said in a letter on Wednesday.
He congratulated the Iranian nation, particularly the country’s academic community and student champions, on the “valuable” achievement, and commended the athletes, coaches, and all members of the delegation for their efforts and dedication.
“Undoubtedly, this achievement reflects the great potential and bright future of the country's young generation and students,” the president stressed, expressing his hope that “with more careful planning and serious support from relevant authorities, we will witness the increasing brilliance of the children of this land on the sports fields.”
The Iranian delegation delivered an impressive performance at the 2026 FISU World University Championship Combat Sports in Brazil, winning 14 gold, seven silver, and nine bronze medals.
The Iranian delegation consisted of 32 athletes competing in wrestling and karate. The championship brought together more than 1,500 athletes from 50 countries, reflecting the event’s high level of competition.
